Preliminary Task- Research And Planning

In this section I am going to provide proof of my research and planning and justify the design choices that I make.

Firstly, in order to understand the generic codes and conventions of a school magazine, I am going to analyse the cover and content pages of existing school magazines, so that I will meet the demands of what a professional magazine should look like; I will be aware of the codes and conventions that I need to include when making my own magazine and how I can challenge or subvert these.

Here is my power point which focuses on the deconstruction of four existing school magazine front covers and their content pages.

Here is an example of my first 'mock up' magazine cover using found images.

Here is an example of the first questionnaire I have chosen to use.  I chose to question a random sample of students between the ages of 11-18 in order to gauge as wide a range of opinions as possible and so target the correct audience.

My magazine will specifically be targeted towards the children within Archbishop Ilsley catholic school as i believe that my magazine will be useful and mostly relevant to them. However, my magazine will also be targeted towards parents, teachers, governors and the local community who have a link with Archbishop Ilsley school as my magazine will be a quick way for them to receive new updates and other relevant information about the school and sixth form college.

Analysis of my Questionnaire
I decided to give my questionnaire out in form as Archbishop Ilsley holds a new system in place called vertical tutoring, this allows me to get results from a range of ages starting with 11 up to 18. the reason why I chose these certain set of people is because they are currently in education which means my school magazine would be relevant to them as they are my target audience. It also gives them the opportunity to tell me what they expect to see in my school magazine product, i will take their suggestions into consideration as their opinions are relevant and valuable in order to better my product.

Below I have included a presentation which I made on Prezzi to document my design process and my reasons why for  my school magazine.
